Merian Global Investors was formed in June 2018 when private equity firm TA Associates, together with its management team, acquired the “single-strategy” investment capabilities of Old Mutual Global Investors from Quilter plc.[1]

Merian Global Investors is owned by funds controlled by Jupiter Fund Management plc, members of its senior management team, senior fund managers, other members of Merian Global Investors staff. Incorporation in Jersey means we are prevented from knowing who the shareholders are, and their stakes.

    Jupiter Fund Management plc agreed to buy Merian from TA Associates. The acquisition made Jupiter the UK's 2nd-largest retail fund manager - and also led to job cuts.[2][3]

  • Jun.2018: Quilter plc listed on the London Stock Exchange.[9] Formerly Old Mutual Wealth, it separated from parent Old Mutual plc. The business’s subsidiaries will be re-branded to Quilter; in the meantime it will continue to use the names Old Mutual Wealth (UK Platform/Life Assurance), Old Mutual International, Intrinsic, Old Mutual Wealth Multi-Asset, Old Mutual Wealth Private Client Advisers and Old Mutual Wealth Financial Adviser School for the brands within Quilter.
  • Mar.2018: Old Mutual Wealth Management officially changed its name to Quilter ahead of its plans to list and separate from Old Mutual. The first business to be renamed is expected to be the multi-asset business, which will become Quilter Investors. Quilter Cheviot will retain its name.[10]
  • Dec.2017: Quilter plc (Old Mutual Wealth) announced it had agreed to sell its Single Strategy asset management business to funds managed by TA Associates LP and the Single Strategy team.[11][5][f:2] The transaction completed in Jun.2018.
