Maersk is a Danish business conglomerate with activities in the transport, logistics and energy sectors. Maersk has been the largest container ship and supply vessel operator in the world since 1996. The company is based in Denmark, with subsidiaries and offices across 130 countries.

In Sept.2016, Maersk Group split into two separate divisions: Transport & Logistics, and Energy.

While Moller Maersk Group has urged the shipping industry to decarbonise, it also supports high GHG emissions sources. Moller Maersk is a member of the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers and Oil & Gas UK, who lobby EU and UK policymakers to support a long-term role for oil and gas.

Hamburg Süd, the world's 7th-biggest container operator with 130 container vessels, was bought from Dr August Oetker KG, after being squeezed by massive overcapacity and falling cargo prices.[2] The business had been ailing for a long time.[3]
