Acadia Healthcare, an American corporation headquartered in Tennessee, develops and operates inpatient psychiatric facilities, residential treatment centers, group homes, substance abuse facilities, and outpatient behavioural healthcare facilities.

Waud Capital Partners LLC, a Chicago-based middle-market private equity firm, established Acadia Healthcare in Dec.2005 as a platform to acquire, develop and operate a network of behavioral health facilities. With 48 acquisitions under its belt, Acadia's operations grew to 576 facilities with ~17,300 beds across the USA, the UK and Puerto Rico, at the time of Waud Capital's exit in Aug.2017.[1]

Acadia Healthcare reported $756m revenue for Jan-Sept.2018 from its govt-funded UK facilities.[2] The Priory Group made £62.2m profit in 2017, mostly funded by taxpayers; one director was handed £243,000 in remuneration.[3]

Partnerships in Care was merged with the Priory Group. The merger saw 66 sites, with a total of 1,890 beds, join the Priory Group.
Oct.2016 BC Partners LLP, a private equity firm, purchased a portfolio of mental health facilities from Acadia,[5] to form the basis of a new company, Elysium Healthcare Ltd.[6][7] The 22-site company was established with 10 sites (incl. Wellesley Hospital) from Partnerships in Care Ltd, and 12 sites from the Priory Group.[8][9] The transaction was subject to the Competition & Markets Authority's approval.

Priory Group, a UK-based operator of a chain of 450+ behavioral care facilities, was purchased from American venture capital and private equity firm Advent International Corporation.[10][11],[12] The Competition & Markets Authority raised concerns over the acquisition,[13] but accepted undertakings from Acadia "to take such action as it considers appropriate."[14][15]
Feb.2015 CRC Health Group Inc, a California-based behavioral health care provider, was acquired.[16]
Jan.2015 McCallum Place, an 85-bed eating disorder treatment facility located in St. Louis, Missouri and Austin, Texas, was acquired.[16]

Sept.2008 RiverWoods Psychiatric Facility, an Atlanta-based 45-bed inpatient psychiatric facility, was acquired from Southern Regional Health System. RiverWoods is a behavioral health facility serving both Adults and Adolescents.[22]
Nov.2009 Peninsula Village Residential Treatment Center was acquired from Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, Tennessee. Peninsula Village, a 145-bed residential treatment center located in Louisville, TN, is a residential treatment center serving adolescents ages 13-17 suffering from emotional and/or behavioral disorders who have not responded to less intensive treatment approaches. The facility’s name will change to The Village.[23]
Mar.2009 Acadiana Addiction Center, a 32-bed Residential Substance Abuse facility in Lafayette, Louisiana, was acquired, together with elle of the Oaks, an 8-bed Women’s Extended Residential facility.[24]
Sept.2006 Kids Behavioral Health LLC was acquired. The purchase included two behavioral healthcare adolescent treatment facilities: Pu’ukamalu, located on the Big Island of Hawaii in the town of Hilo, and Kids Behavioral Health of Montana, located in Butte, Montana.[25]
Jun.2006 Acquisitions: two inpatient psychiatric facilities and an outpatient clinic were acquired from Vermilion Healthcare by Acadia Healthcare Company LLC. The two facilities will be renamed Acadia Hospital of Lafayette LLC, and Acadia Hospital of Longview LLC, and are located in Lafayette, Louisiana and Longview, Texas, respectively.[26]
