Volvo is a publicly-traded Swedish multinational manufacturing company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. While its core activity is the production, distribution and sale of trucks, buses and construction equipment, Volvo also supplies marine and industrial drive systems and financial services. The Group has production facilities in 18 countries, and sells its products in 190+ markets.
Net sales break down as follows:
- 64.5%: Trucks: 202,402 vehicles (Volvo, Renault, UD, Eicher and Mack) sold in 2017.
- 19.8%: Construction equipment: excavators, loaders, backhoes, hydraulic shovels, graders, dump trucks, etc.;
- 7.6%: Bus and chassis sales: world's 2nd largest manufacturer;
- 3.4%: Financial services: financing, insurance, rentals, spare parts, preventive maintenance, service agreements, assistance services and IT services.ref
- 3.2%: Parts, control systems, and marine and industrial motors: for commerce and cruise ships and industrial applications;

- Mar.1999: Against the background of the consolidation under way in the transport vehicle industry, Volvo conducted a strategic review of the company's operations. As a result, Volvo sold Volvo Cars to Ford. The sale improved Volvo Cars' future prospects and meant that Volvo could establish a stronger Volvo totally focused on commercial products; incorporating trucks, buses, construction equipment, marine and industrial engines and aerospace components. ref
