Like his father, the late BBC director-general Alasdair Milne, Mr Corbyn’s close ally went to Winchester College, the independent boarding school, and Oxford University. During his time at Winchester he ran on a Maoist ticket in a mock election. Mr Milne worked at The Economist and moved to The Guardian where he was labour editor and comment editor.
