  • Jun.2010: Woolworth GmbH: Woolworth was sold to North Rhine-Westphalia-based HH Holding, a subsidiary of the Tengelmann retail group. HH Holding was put forward by USA private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP, which leases the commercial space for 82 Woolworth stores. Cerberus strong-armed the company's insolvency administrator into rejecting three rival bidders.ref
  • Apr.2009: Insolvency: the company filed for insolvency at the Frankfurt am Main district court.
  • 1998: DWW Deutsche Woolworth GmbH & Co. OHG: with a management buy-out, which included the rights to the Woolworth trademark in continental Europe, the German subsidiary was separated from its American parent company FW Woolworth Company, which had closed all its department stores in the USA, Canada and Great Britain in 1997, re-focusing on retailing sporting goods.[1]
  • 1927: Woolworth Germany: FW Woolworth Company opened a first store in Bremen, Germany.[1][2] By the end of 1927, there were 7 stores, including one in Berlin. Between 1970-1997, profits from Germany were helping to sustain Woolworth USA. Deutsche Woolworth GmbH & Company OHG has operated independently since 1998; and it owns the rights to the Woolworth trademark in continental Europe. Woolworth.de
