Timeline

  • May.2002: Go Fly: 3i announced the sale of budget airline Go Fly to easyJet. 3i and Barclays Private Equity acquired a 62% stake, with Go employees a 22.5% stake. Go was sold for £374m in cash. With £116.4m in net cash on the company’s balance sheet, the enterprise value is £257.6m. This means that 3i will record a £231m profit, or a 2.7 times return, on its initial investment. The Go acquisition will allow easyJet to expand into new routes without having to take the risk of investing in new infrastructure. Also they will benefit from a strong brand and existing market base.ref, p.9
