  • Aug.31.2018: Tory women MPs targeted with sexist abuse online. Party chairman Brandon Lewis was also facing pressure last night as the Tory party was accused of covering up the findings of a disciplinary investigation involving one of its former government ministers. In an email seen by the website Buzzfeed, Gavin Barwell, the prime minister’s chief of staff, said the party board had decided not to publish the outcome of an investigation into claims made against multiple Tory party members, including Guto Bebb, the MP for Aberconwy. Four complainants told Buzzfeed News they decided to go public to try to stop the findings being covered up. The first complaint against Mr Bebb was submitted almost three years ago. One of the complaints, received by CCHQ last October, alleged that Mr Bebb was involved in a “violent incident” in which the complainant claims that “during a conversation with Guto Bebb . . . he held me by my throat, squeezing it, at which I went limp”. Mr Bebb, who quit as defence minister over Brexit in July, has strongly denied any wrongdoing and described the allegations as “false, malicious and defamatory”.
