HS Timber Group, formerly known as Holzindustrie Schweighofer until Dec.2019, is an Austrian, privately-held, family-owned company with 400+ years of wood-processing history. The group is organised as a holding company, SPB Beteiligungsverwaltung GmbH, domiciled in Vienna. It primarily operates in the wood processing industry, but also engages in lumber trading and bioenergy production.

PelletsOne is a direct sales company for pellets and briquettes in Austria. The company’s warehouses are well positioned logistically, enabling the supply of quality pellets to many different regions in Austria. link

DABG (Dr Anna Bauthen Gesellschaft), based in Vienna, is one of the leading timber trading companies in Central Europe. For 35+ years, the company has dealt with spruce timber in North Africa, East Africa and in the Middle East. Acquired by Schweighofer Group in 2018. http://www.dabg.at/

  • Mar.2018: Cascade Empire srl, a wholly-owned subsidiary, and Ocol Silvic Cascade Empire srl, its forest management unit, were sold to Swedish company GreenGold Group. The 14,283 hectares of forest areas owned by Cascade Empire are located in the Romanian regions of Hunedoara, Gorj, Valcea, Prahova, Buzau, Neamt and Suceava.ref

    Illegal Logging: an undercover investigation by the Environmental Investigation Agency implicated FSC-certified Holzindustrie Schweighofer in illegal logging in Romania, including in national parks and other protected areas. An expert panel subsequently recommended that the FSC “disassociate” from Holzindustrie Schweighofer based on “clear and convincing evidence” of illegality; however, the FSC opted for suspension instead. An outcry from environmentalists pushed the FSC to break ties with the company - but it immediately started working on a “roadmap” to bring Schweighofer back into certification.ref,ref
